-------------------------------------------------
I started my love of photography early. My father was an avid camera bug, and it didn't take me long to learn my way around a shutter release. In high school my first experience with darkroom photo printing processes seemed like magic and I was hooked!
After art classes at American River College in Northern California, I studied photography under the late Glen Fishback in Sacramento. I worked as a Professional Photographer for the next 20 years, learning all I could about cameras, lenses, black and white, color processing, studio lighting, commercial, aerial, portrait and wedding photography. I learned negative retouching at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California.
Only a few short years ago, film has been replaced by digital sensors. Computers with powerful graphics programs have taken over for the old chemical-laden darkrooms. It is a new digital world for photographers! I for one, couldn't be happier! These new tools allow limitless photographic creativity!
Building on my traditional photographic experience, I enjoy creating images that twist or move the light into new realms. Computers can create "impossible" new lenses. Colors can change properties at the wave of a hand. Infrared light can reveal entirely new worlds through modified optics. These tools influence my photos of the Southwestern United States.
I hope you enjoy my images. Thanks for visiting!
Sincerely,
Jay Pierstorff
